Anne Mette Kirk’s debut
novel, BROKEN, is about loss.
About losing both one’s loved
one and oneself. It is the story
of finding one’s feet again,
even if the truth is deeply
One rainy night after a secondary school party, a stolen car crashes into a
tree. Behind the wheel is 19-year-old Jonathan, who tragically loses his life
in the accident. The three other passengers, Tanja, Phillip and Nikoline,
survive. The accident has severe consequences, however, for the three survivors.
Their voices set the novel off to a fantastic start, as the voices each tell
a painful story of surviving the catastrophe. The voices are interwoven, and
although they are all broken in different ways, they do agree on not talking
about the accident afterwards.
But Jonathan who didn’t survive has a little sister, Mathilde, and she can’t
let it go. The loss of her brother has crushed her too. Gradually she begins
to look more and more closely into the accident and the four young people
What actually happened that evening at the school party? Why did these
particular four students end up in a stolen car? And why don’t any of the
survivors talk to each other anymore?
Meanwhile on the side-lines, the young, newly qualified police officer, Marc,
who was the first on the accident scene, also starts digging into the case.
From different angles, Mathilde and Marc dig themselves into a
tight-fitting network of lies and concealments. And little by little
they approach the truth about Jonathan's death. A truth that will
shatter Mathilde's world. Once again.
What if everyone else is wrong? What if Jonathan's death was
not an accident at all?d point in history and in spite of fear and crisis decides to act on his empathy with the victims of politics. Wallenberg is a practical and adventurous idealist with a sharp intelligence, who never - not even during his lifelong imprisonment – gives up on his dreams. Not even when his life is at stake.
