MEIK WIKING: HAPPINESS UNDER THE MICROSCOPE
What is happiness, what drives happiness? Why does Denmark always end up at first place in happiness rankings, and how does one measure happiness? These are some of the questions that Happiness under the Microscope answers.
The book is written by one of the world´s leading happiness researchers, Meik Wiking, who is the CEO of The Happiness Research Institute in Denmark. The Happiness Research Institute is a living laboratory, which focuses on why some societies and people are happier than others, and it is also the leading research centre in the world, when it comes to investigations into well-being, happiness and quality of life.
Happiness under the Microscope gives a historical overview of how the concept of happiness has changed from the ancient Greeks until today, and how happiness is being used as a political tool and to monitor progress by organizations and countries like the UN, the UK and Bhutan. In addition it presents the key finding from the last decades of happiness research.
The book explores how for example marriage affects happiness, the impact money has on our quality of life, the question whether we are in fact born more or less happy, at what age we can expect to be happier and it investigates that which is called the suicide-happiness paradox. The book also discusses the Facebook experiment which the Happiness Research Institute conducted last year, which explore how Facebook impacts our happiness. The results were covered in more than 100 media and reached 100+ million people worldwide.
